Purpose, intended audience and limitations of the calculator

This calculator is designed to assist users in evaluating potential costs, consumption, and CO₂ emissions associated with various Katrin tissue options. The carbon footprint of Metsä Tissue's Katrin tissue is based on data collected from the company's own mills and value chains.

This calculator is intended for guiding professional sales teams and buyers to better assess different Katrin products. It is designed for professional use within B2B settings and is not intended for consumers. Users are permitted to modify all input values to more accurately reflect information, thereby ensuring transparency. The calculator will compute the results for each tissue option based on the provided data. The CO₂ figures, calculated using average data from Metsä's mills, are considered conservative estimates and likely overestimate the emissions vs actual emissions.

This tool does not constitute a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculation but rather serves as a simulation of different variables to facilitate the comparison of different Katrin tissue paper options. Therefore the calculations must not be used to create claims about specific products and they may not be reprinted or published.

Calculations have been done by a third party; AFRY* according to their Standard Calculations using average data from Metsä's mills. The calculations are made cradle-to-gate, applying the ISO 14067:2018 standard and Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) for footprint calculation (impact category GWP). Other impact categories of PEFCR were not included in the study. On top of production stages in cradle to gate approach in PEFCR, converting was considered in this study.

CO₂ calculation is based on sheet use in grams per hand drying. The sheet use is Metsä's expert estimation and changeable upon need. Grams are based on actual tissue weight. In addition to climate impacts, tissue products have several other environmental impacts, such as those related to resource consumption, biodiversity and water use.
